Since the 15th century, the town has grown so much that it has merged with the other Kaštelas into one vibrant collection of low-rise buildings, with only a narrow core of the original settlement remaining. The dynamic agglomeration of Kaštela is also renowned for its agriculture. In fact, this area boasts one of the largest, if not the largest, agricultural area in Dalmatia, undoubtedly a great asset for the hospitality industry. This is certainly true for “Stari dvor”, which sources all the vegetables and fruits from nearby fields.
Here, the sea literally reaches the restaurant’s terrace, naturally inspiring a menu rich with all sea delicacies:
scampi buzara style, scampi and shellfish pasta, a variety of grilled fish, and seafood salads such as octopus salad, shrimp salad, salad with salted anchovies, salad served with thick black cuttlefish ink dressing; cuttlefish risotto or shrimp risotto, etc. As meat holds a near-cult status in this part of Dalmatia, it also plays an important role on the menu. Meat is mostly prepared on the grill or in a wood-fired oven. The oven is also used to prepare several types of lasagna, as well as pizzas and traditional flatbreads, which are often served instead of regular bread. Their fine desserts are a special highlight.
The terrace, located next to the sea, offers tavern-like ambiance. Just beyond the fence and the restaurant’s grand entrance lies a beautiful garden—a delightful setting where fine meals are enjoyed in the idyllic atmosphere of Mediterranean greenery. The interior of the restaurant is refined and tastefully decorated. This is clearly a serious approach to hospitality, as evidenced by the rich menu that also includes vegetarian and vegan dishes, with service beginning as early as breakfast. The positive impression is further enhanced by highly professional and friendly waitstaff. All in all, a well-run and thoughtfully curated restaurant experience.
TECHNICAL INSPECTION
All criteria of the HACCP system have been met in terms of safety and technical conditions. The staff is well-trained and friendly; they are familiar with the criteria for selecting and serving food. They readily inform guests about the rich history and unique features of Kaštela, along with its authentic traditional dishes. The traceability of ingredients is at a high level.
